My name is Ryan Anderson, and I’m traveling to Houston this summer to lead teams of people to rebuild the city. I want to invite you to consider being part of my home base support team.
Houston is an amazing city, but it has recently had huge setbacks due to Hurricane Harvey. On Aug. 25, 2017, Harvey made landfall in Texas. As a Category 4 hurricane, it became the country’s first Category 3 or higher hurricane since 2005 (Wilma), causing about $125 billion in damage. Harvey ranks as the second-most costly hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since 1900.
“This is going to be a massive, massive cleanup process,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott. “People need to understand this is not going to be a short-term project. This is going to be a multi-year project for Texas to be able to dig out of this catastrophe.”
Statistics say it will take 5-6 years to rebuild, but the publicity has slowed down, emergency teams are pulling out, while homeowners remain in hotels and have lost everything.
What we will be doing there?
That’s where my team and I come in. I am working for an organization called Experience Mission (EM) who is partnering with a church called St. Andrews Presbyterian Church to focus on the long term goal of rebuilding the community. Our focus will be on insulation, drywall, and flooring. We are supplying these sites with work forces and supplies where other organizations aren’t.
It is also about more than just rebuilding homes; relationship building in the community will also be a major focus. We meet and sit down with each homeowner, hear their story, and see what God is doing in their lives. They aren’t numbers to us. They are friends and neighbors.
How can you help?
In order to do this important work, I am gathering a team who, though not coming with me on the trip, can support this ministry from afar. I’d like to invite you to join my Rebuilding Houston Support Team. As a member of this team, you’ll get…:
- Opportunities for prayer and financial giving
- Updates on the latest happening in Houston
- Photos, videos, and other ways to see what is going on this summer
